Dragon Manuscript

Created to resemble an ancient illuminated manuscript for a novelist client, the words are the first two sentences of his novel. The purple dragon wrapped around the gilded initial capital is the novel's protagonist and narrator. The blackletter calligraphy and page design are inspired by the Metz Pontifical, a French manuscript, c. 1300. (Reproduced in Historical Scripts by Stan Knight, Oak Knoll Press, 1998).

Calligraphy hand lettered with steel pens and stick ink, illuminated with 24kt gold leaf, watercolor and gouache.
