Carousel Horse

A carousel hourse, decked with jeweled, gold- and silver-trimmed livery, canters across a starry sky, while a cat rubs against the pole. The names and birthdates of two girls border the scene.

My very first commission--even before I started doing calligraphy--this piece is dear to my heart. I cut the design with an X-acto blade first, then gilded the horse's accoutrements, and painted the jewels with gouache.
